I’ll never forget the early days of my ministry when I felt deeply frustrated. I knew God was a miracle-working God—I’d studied revivals, poured over Scripture, and believed wholeheartedly that he was the same yesterday, today, and forever. Yet, despite my belief, I wasn’t seeing the supernatural manifestations I knew were possible.
I began to earnestly seek God in prayer, asking him directly, “Lord, why am I not seeing the miracles I know you’re capable of performing?”
His answer to me was straightforward yet incredibly profound:
“You’ve gone as far as you can go at your current level of fasting and prayer.”
God’s response was a clear invitation, a challenge to step deeper. At that pivotal moment, I had a choice: be offended or obey. I chose obedience and immediately set myself apart for a dedicated 21-day fast, determined to press into God like never before.
The Breakthrough Moment
After those 21 transformative days, my first ministry assignment was in New Brunswick, Canada, and it forever changed my life.
During one particular service, after preaching, I gave an altar call for salvation. A woman, younger than 40, came forward to accept Jesus. Later, I discovered this was her very first time ever stepping foot in a church. God had orchestrated this divine moment perfectly.
Right after praying for salvation, I announced we would pray for healing. Without hesitation, she bolted out of the sanctuary. Moments later, she returned, urgently bringing her six-year-old son, Timothy, to the front of the line. Her request was simple yet staggering:
“Please pray for my son first. He’s been completely blind in his right eye for the past five years.”
Standing there, staring at Timothy, I was faced with an immediate need for God’s miraculous power. This wasn’t a minor ailment—this was blindness. I didn’t have time to overthink it. I placed my hand over Timothy’s blind eye and prayed. As I did, I felt something flood my spirit—the compassion of Christ. I wasn’t just praying out of routine. It was faith-filled intercession that came from a deep well of fasting and prayer.
“Lord, open his eye. Restore his sight.”
Then I took my hand off his eye and declared, “Open, in Jesus’ name!”
When I removed my hand, Timothy looked up at me, his eyes wide with amazement, and shouted joyfully, “I CAN SEE YOU!” His mother fell to her knees, overcome by the undeniable miracle they had just witnessed.
To confirm the miracle, I repeatedly tested Timothy’s sight. Each time, his vision was perfect. Jesus had healed him completely.
The Key to Supernatural Breakthrough
That miraculous encounter reminded me vividly of Mark 9, when the disciples struggled to cast a demon out of a boy. Frustrated, they asked Jesus why they couldn’t do it, and His response was clear:
“This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
There are dimensions of God’s power and breakthrough you’ll never access without fasting and prayer. It’s not optional; it’s essential for anyone desiring to walk in the fullness of God’s supernatural power.
If you’re longing to see greater results in your ministry or life, I encourage you—press deeper. Commit to a lifestyle of fasting and prayer, and watch as supernatural breakthroughs become your daily reality.
