3 Essential Prayers You MUST Pray When Fasting

Have you ever felt like you’re spinning your wheels—investing time, energy, and resources but still not experiencing the breakthrough you’re hoping for? Maybe you’ve changed directions repeatedly, racked up debt, or made costly mistakes because you lacked clarity on God’s plan for your life. Here’s the truth: there are three essential prayers you must pray when fasting. Without these prayers, you risk missing God’s guidance, direction, and provision. Today, I’m sharing these three powerful prayers to help align your fasting with God’s will and experience supernatural breakthroughs.

1. Prayer of Consecration

One of the most powerful prayers you can pray during fasting is the prayer of consecration. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed, “Not my will, but Your will be done” (Luke 22:42). This prayer embodies the heart of consecration: fully surrendering your own plans and desires to embrace God’s purpose.

Consecration positions you to receive God’s supernatural wisdom, direction, and blessing. When you surrender to God, you open yourself to possibilities far beyond your own understanding. Consecration means saying, “Lord, my life belongs to You. Use me according to Your perfect will.” This surrendered posture allows God to use you in ways far greater than you could achieve on your own.

2. Prayer for Laborers in the Harvest

After consecrating yourself to God, your next essential prayer should focus on asking God to send laborers into His harvest. Jesus highlighted the urgency of this prayer when He said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few” (Matthew 9:37).

Fasting isn’t only about your personal needs—it’s also about aligning your heart with God’s priority: souls. Pray passionately that God will raise up Spirit-filled, bold believers who will share the Gospel with urgency. Intercede for pastors, missionaries, evangelists, and everyday believers to be filled with a fresh zeal for reaching the lost. When you prioritize God’s primary mission, you become part of His global plan for salvation.

3. Prayer for Divine Direction

The third prayer you must pray during fasting is for divine direction. Too often, Christians waste valuable years and resources because they never seek God’s specific guidance. Romans 8:14 reminds us, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

Without clear direction from God, you might spend years pursuing paths that lead nowhere, racking up unnecessary debt, and experiencing frustration. Psalm 127:1 cautions, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” If your efforts aren’t God-directed, they won’t produce lasting results.

Ask God specifically to reveal His plans, purposes, and next steps for your life. Don’t assume you know the way—seek His blueprint. This clarity will help you build momentum and move forward confidently, knowing you’re walking in His divine will.
